Overview
The Assistant Shipping Manager supports the Shipping Manager in overseeing a dynamic and detail-driven department. This role is ideal for someone looking to step into a leadership role while learning the systems and standards that keep our operation thriving. The assistant will help facilitate the planning, organizing, staffing, and execution of day-to-day operations in our shipping department with a strong focus on efficiency, communication, and follow-through.

Primary Job Duties
- Support the Shipping Manager in executing the daily and weekly shipping schedules
- Assist with organizing and prepping orders for shipping, including labeling, pre-pricing, and staging
- Help monitor and meet shipping quotas by directing crews and supporting task prioritization
- Maintain accurate order fulfillment processes and communicate issues to Shipping Manager or Sales Manager as needed
- Participate in crew scheduling and time tracking, assisting with attendance and coverage as needed
- Serve as a point of contact for shipping staff questions or issues when the Shipping Manager is unavailable
- Help ensure clean, organized, and safe workspaces
- Track and replenish shipping supplies, labels, and equipment as directed
- Assist with training of new crew members, providing guidance on processes and company standards
- Identify and flag workflow or equipment issues for resolution
- Printing, organizing and labeling retail orders.
- Act as a support for coordination with other departments (Sales, Production, Inventory)
- Help review packing accuracy and shipping paperwork for completeness
- Step into lead roles or additional responsibilities during peak shipping periods or Shipping Manager’s absence
- Participate in company meetings and safety reviews as needed
- Demonstrate and promote the values of Perennial Favorites in daily work

Additional Expectations
- Be a reliable second-in-command, ready to adapt and step up when needed
- Expected to stay until the job is finished, long hours in spring, long hours expected 12+ hours in busy season along with working 6 days a week April-June
- No time off is accepted in April, May, June (our busy season).

- Be coachable and open to learning advanced operational and leadership skills
- During the off season you will help with a wide range of projects such as:
- Planting, trimming, watering, propagation, and construction projects.
- Inputting crops, updating inventory, and availability.
- Any and all other tasks within reason that management deems necessary

Physical Demands
- Lifting 5–50 lbs frequently; occasional assisted lifts over 50 lbs
- Long periods of standing, walking, bending, or kneeling
- Working in greenhouses, warehouse, and outdoor areas as needed
- Occasional work at heights over 5 feet

Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: Based on experience and qualifications
- $20.00 to $25.00 an hour
- Benefits:
