Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Supply Chain Specialist – Horticulture to lead the management of our live plant inventory. This role is critical in ensuring crop readiness, inventory accuracy, and order alignment across departments, all of which contribute to our weekly Availability List.
In addition to inventory oversight, this position supports the Sales Office by assisting with order entry, customer service (retail and landscape), and label preparation for outgoing shipments. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational skills, proficiency with digital tools, and a passion for plants and seasonal nursery operations.
This is a full-time position with benefits, based in a fast-paced, hands-on, family-run environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inventory & Availability Management
- Lead weekly crop reviews to confirm readiness, special traits, and inventory accuracy
- Align crop availability with planting and shipping schedules
- Coordinate with sectional growers to maintain crop standards and update counts
- Perform inventory adjustments and generate weekly Availability Lists
2. Sales Office & Customer Support
- Respond to calls and emails, supply bids/quotes, and enter customer orders
- Ensure order accuracy and assist with pre-pricing during peak seasons
- Foster inter-departmental communication for smooth daily operations
3. Shipping, Labeling & Order Preparation
- Create and manage electronic labels by customer account
- Print and organize labels daily in partnership with the Shipping Manager
- Maintain label inventory and improve labeling systems
4. Seasonal & General Support
- Work extended hours during spring (April–June); flexibility is required
- Maintain office supply inventory and support restocking efforts
- Assist with off-season tasks (e.g., planting, propagation, crop entry, light construction)
- Support other nursery operations as directed by management
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in horticulture or a related degree
- Proficient in inventory management software, Microsoft Excel, and Office Suite
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure and resolve issues promptly
- Solid plant knowledge, including:
- Genus, species, and variety identification
- Growth characteristics (height, width, bloom color, etc.)
- Understanding of watering, hardiness zones, and soil requirements
- Awareness of current retail and landscape trends
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate:
- $18.00 – $20.00, based on experience and qualifications
